Sollus Highland Dancers

Founded in 2001, Sollus Highland Dancers has grown from a small local dance group into one of the largest and most successful Highland dance organisations in Northern Ireland. The group’s first tutor, Iain, was connected to a Scottish regiment based in Londonderry. Following his redeployment, tuition was taken over in January 2002 by Mischa Dodds from Edinburgh, who played a key role in developing the school and mentoring current lead tutor Georgina Kee-McCarter.

Over the years, Sollus Highland Dancers has achieved outstanding success in competition, performance, and cultural promotion. The school has been crowned European and Ulster Choreography Champions and has produced numerous championship dancers. In 2023, the school celebrated a historic milestone when Amy Young became the first dancer from Northern Ireland to win an International Highland Dancing Championship.

Beyond competition, Sollus dancers are proud ambassadors for their culture, performing at festivals, showcases, and major events throughout Europe. Dancers have travelled to the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, and across the United Kingdom, including performances for members of the Royal Family at Windsor Castle.

Today, Sollus Highland Dancers has a team of qualified tutors delivering classes across schools and community venues throughout Northern Ireland. The organisation engages hundreds of young people each week, providing opportunities for participation, achievement, cultural expression, and personal development through dance.

Our mission is simple: Have pride in your own culture and respect for others.
